Lotus temple is located in Bahapur village, in Capital National territory of Delhi. This temple has been constructed an Iranian Architect. Currently, this architect is living in Canada and his name is Fariborz Sahba. It was in year 1976 when he was approached for construction of this beautiful Lotus Temple. Ardishír Rustampúr who lives in Hyderabad donated numerous funds for the construction of this temple. You will be amazed to know this fact that he gave his savings of entire life for building this house of worship. A quarter from the constructions budget was saved and this was used for building greenhouses. This amount was to be used for studying indigenous flowers and plants. These will be appropriate for using it on Bahá'í House of Worship and this will be inclusive of Lotus temple and it would also share various architectural elements. Some of them will be specified through Bahá'í scripture. The son and founder of this religion is `Abdu'l-Bahá. One of the most significant architectural characters of this Lotus Temple is 9 sided circular shape of this temple. You will not be aware of this fact that all houses of worship are having a dome in them but this was not thought to be a significant architecture part. If you go through the scriptures of Bahá'í House of worship then you will come to know that no images, statues or pictures will be allowed for displaying within this temple. You will also not be allowed to incorporate any altars or pulpits as architectural feature.
The complete design and architecture of Lotus temple has been inspired from Lotus flower. It consists of 27 marble clad petal and these are free standing. These flowers are arranged in 3 clusters and these will be forming 9 sides. There are 9 doors in lotus temple and these all get opened to central hall and it approximately forty meters tall and in this hall more than two thousand people can easily come in. white marble is used for making the surface of lotus temple. This white marble has been ordered from Greece- Penteli Mountain. You will not be aware that various other ancient worship houses and ancient monuments have also been built from this marble only. This temple is surrounded by 9 gardens and ponds and its property is approximately 26 acres. If you are planning to visit Delhi then you should definitely plan your visit to this temple.
